Bono, Tony Blair to Discuss Need for Credible LeadershipJuly 16, 2009 - South Barrington, IL /PRNewswire/ -- 100,000+ Expected to Attend The Leadership Summit 2009 Hosted by Willow Creek Association. One of the world's largest church associations is welcoming a record number of business and religious leaders to The Leadership Summit 2009, a two-day conference held in South Barrington, Ill., and broadcast worldwide. As part of its mission for each person to "lead where you are," Chicago-area based Willow Creek Association will host and broadcast The Leadership Summit 2009, live August 6 & 7 to more than 60,000 leaders attending in over 200 satellite locations across the country. The event will feature a world renowned faculty, including videocasts from Bono, lead singer of U2, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. It will also be re-broadcast to 134 cities in 28 languages and 55 countries later this fall to an additional 40,000 leaders worldwide. According to a March 2009 McKinsey Quarterly survey of senior executives around the world, 85 percent said that public trust in business has deteriorated over the past year. "People today are disillusioned with all that's taking place around them -- war, terrorism, economic collapse, and business scandals almost daily. Their key question: who is going to lead us out of this?" says Willow Creek Community Church founder and senior pastor Bill Hybels. "Government, business and education alone aren't going to solve the world's problems. It will take transformed leaders having a cascading effect on people, communities, cities and countries they influence. Transforming leaders -- changing the world one community at a time -- that's what The Leadership Summit is all about." The Leadership Summit -- an annual event now in its 15th year -- is designed to explore timely leadership principles from some of today's premiere leaders and thinkers. Whether they are senior pastors, church leaders, business leaders, or anyone wanting to increase their influence, Summit participants will be challenged to hone their skills as leaders both in the church and in their daily lives. Skills highlighted include casting vision, motivating others, self-leadership, team-building, managing volunteers, problem-solving, decision-making, and more. Bono plans to provide a progress report on his original challenge three years ago to Summit attendees to take up the cause against HIV/AIDS. The Summit faculty features 17 speakers, including:
